On Monday, February 1st, Mary Beth Hansen, the owner of Nokomis's Paradise Grill was selected as the 2021-2022 recipient of the Venice Suncoast Rotary Club's  "Service Above Self Award". The award consisted of a plaque and a Paul Harris Fellow, which is a $1000 monetary donation to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, in her honor.

During the Covid-19 crisis, Mary Beth, her crew at the restaurant and a vast list of friends, began a campaign to start a major community feeding operation. Every Friday since the epidemic struck, Mary Beth and her staff prepared 100's of chicken dinners for those in the community needing a nourishing meal. The meals were distributed in the Paradise Grill parking lot and fed 100's of residents in the area with no questions asked. During the worst of the crisis, they gave away over 1200 meals on a single Friday, over 16,000 meals in total!

She received the award with many of her friends and family present and they came from near and far to join her in the celebration. Mary Beth stated that in hard times, our instinct is to give.
